Keep Distance !

23 07 2007

Yet another day… Yet another time… Yet another photograph…

But the scene is not much different…

The photograph in this post was taken at the traffic block at Guindy near Olympia IT park.

It took almost 25 minutes to cover a distance of almost one kilometer from the HCL Technologies office to the next signal at Guindy.

That is fine if everything goes well…

But we all compete to flout some basic rules of traffic here… KEEP DISTANCE!

See how close the vehicles are stopped…

Now the question is whether distance should be maintained only with vehicle in front and back ? Most of the drivers do not find it necessary to leave space at front and back of the vehicle. Forget about the sides…

Chennaites are worst and most hopeless ppls in the worls, these ppls really don’t follow any traffic rules, I am sure it will 100 more years to teach them traffice rules.

you seem to commute the same way i do. the olympia park stretch and ashok nagar 11th avenue are always chaos. i feel a biker is better equipped than someone driving a car.

While the intention behind this blog is good, it “appears” that you are flouting rules – the photos seem to have been taken from a car using a mobile phone. Though, it is quite possible that a passenger from the front seat (other than the driver) has taken these photos. Could you please confirm this?

Really, even if some poor folks try to maintain distance they are pestered into closing the gap by folks/buses from behind !

@paul: I agree with you except on the 100 years part 🙂
@Sneha: Yess… thats bikers rule the roads. i feel pathetic that after paying so much road tax more than a two wheeler, i have to give way for them and drive fearing those morons.
@saikiran: if you know driving, then you cant drive in chennai. to drive in chennai, you have to forget proper driving, throw common sense out of the window, forget everything you have learnt about being considerate to others and submit to the jungle laws.
@QA_Manager: At times we have to break laws to bring greater crimes to light. Plus, in all the photos, I think raks (the author) has been in a stationary vehicle and not a moving one.

@paul: I totally disagree… 🙂 just travel to Hyderabad and you would thank the drivers in Chennai. I have seen police men taking suicidal steps to stop the vehicles at signal.
@Sneha: The daily trip through 11th ave. > Guindy > Saidapet > Anna Salai made us think about such a blog. 🙂
@QA_Manager: We are not flouting any rules here…
If you are hinting that the photos “appears” to be taken while the car was in motion. No. Only one picture, posted so far in the blog, was taken from a moving car. But that was by the passenger.
All pictures, except one, was taken with a Digital SLR and not a mobile phone camera. Mobile Phone cameras do not give the details we need. We felt the need to get pictures from the view point of a driver, rather than from any other point.
