Why do I walk on the road… Defending jaywalkers… Part 1

26 07 2007

According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary:
jaywalking means “to cross a street carelessly or in an illegal manner so as to be endangered by traffic”.

Have you ever been forced to walk on the road… even though there is a footpath…

I would rather walk on the road than on a bad footpath…

To know one of the reasons, see these photographs by Dan:

Hi Friend,

Really it’s a good step ahead. Hats off!! Really in Chennai the traffic condition is not good, day by day the number road users is in the increasing phase and also we could see peoples following the rules badly. To improve the condition only thing is we have to educate the road users to follow the traffic rules by saying the importance of life and also time. They should know the adverse effect of not following traffic rules, and then they will understand the importance of following. When ever we talk about the following of traffic rules, the very immediate reply will be “Road conditions are not good ” and “No one is following then why I should”. This condition should change i.e. they should realize the importance of following traffic rules and they are also in among the all those who not following the rules.

Thanks for the chance..

I should say, a group of bloggers should go around on weekends on bikes and take the extreme step. Whenever we see somebody pissing on the streets, just beat him up or push him down. This will make them think before pissing on the streets. Many will agree to this solution, but I think this is the ONLY solution.

Some engineering student can take up this project: A device that emits a mild (though I prefer a strong one) electric shock when it comes into contact with ureic acid :) This can be installed at strategic places instead of painting images of deities…..
